Burning Ones

So, after hearing Timmy rant and rave about a news reader (as in like, RSS feeds), I finally succumbed to an application called Shrook. So now I will happily be spending less time on the internet and receiving news feeds from various blogs, facebook, and forums (sadly, that’s all I do online).

I’ve finally narrowed my top five favorite movies in order (trilogies count as one movie). I have to admit, I feel somewhat *unholy* posting this after Tim’s awesome news.. but that’s condemnation, not conviction.

2. Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy
3. Stranger Than Fiction
4. A Good Year
5. Hackers

Nb: #3-5 might change in order, but I think those three are permanent. Anyone care to list their top five?

During work I’ve been listening to The Call: Las Vegas online at God.TV. I would totally encourage everyone who can to get over to that website and begin to feast on what the Lord is pouring out in our Nation.

I’ve been kind-of bursting into tears throughout the day because of it. You’re going to have to sign up for a God.TV account but it’s free and fairly painless to do. If you already have a Church Insight account you can just use that.

Every time I see a dog I have this huge compulsion to sit on it like one would sit on a horse. This happens for a couple of reasons. One: to see the dog’s reaction and two: for the small chance that I could actually go galloping away in glee.

Different dogs react differently. Tim’s old dog, Lucy, who was a mix of greyhound, lab, and shepherd, ran for her life before I could even put any weight on her. Rylie, Alex and Jaclyn’s Jack Russell, was so small that I would crush it and, well, galloping was just out of the question. And Kodi, my parent’s husky just kind of immediately sits and looks at me with a cropped head as if to say, “Do I get my treat now?”

Well, tonight I think Kodi proved he had enough when Tim and I were watching a movie. Kodi’s favorite spot to sit is on top of the sofa and in the middle of the movie Kodi comes off of his usual perch to sit on me. He plops his furry butt on my right shoulder and straddled his legs around my arm with his front paws on my outstretched legs. I thought that he might have been in the process of going from the couch to the floor, but instead he just sat there and stared blankly, hehe. Tim and I were trying to swat him off but he persistently stayed put.

What he doesn’t know is that I bought a saddle and he’s going to be sorry he ever tried to get even :-)

Unfortunately, we had to revert back to lastRSS.php to get this done, as I don’t have enough time at the moment to get the queries right or to figure out how to utilize pre–written Wordpress functions in order to get the data out of the blog and onto the front page.

“Whatcha doing?” I ask as I pass Andrew walking out of the kitchen, 20 zip-lock bags in hand.

“I need 20 bugs for a science project due tomorrow,” he says cheerfully as he heads out the kitchen door. He pokes his head back in and adds, “and I have to mount them and classify them.”

I can’t but help let out a grin, “Andrew, it’s dark outside.”

“I know.”

So the next time you see your 14 year old brother outside with a flashlight, a pair of wrenches, and a zip-lock bag climbing trees and leafing through grass and dirt you won’t need to ask questions :-)

Well, anyone who is looking here should be able to tell that the clunky bBlog blogging platform is gone and is replaced by the sleek new Wordpress.org default page. I spent awhile last night laboriously moving all of the previous blog entries (sans-comments unfortunately :( ) over to Wordpress, manually! That was a long process…

Anyway, the next stage in the process is to get it integrated back into the front page which is going to take some editing of queries. That’s usually pretty fun, but wish us luck anyway!

Well, the time has come to say good bye to bBlog. I have to say that the honeymoon wasn’t even sweet. I should have just let myself be swept in the craze that is Wordpress but my stupid anti-popular bent lead me to attempt to do things differently. Anyway, that being said, it’s time to say goodbye…

So, sometime this weekend, burningones.com will be replaced with a we’re under construction text and I will feverishly attempt to migrate to Wordpress. Wish us luck…

Someone tell me how this works…

I go away for a week on vacation. Eat some really good food, attend a leadership summit, and don’t ride my bike at all. And when I get back, I have gone back down to 267.4 pounds, after a night of eating pasta the day before! Colour me confuseled!

So we’re back! A huge part of me wants to be back at IHOP because I felt void of problems, but I know I’m supposed to be here.

I am stealing Timmy’s blogging day because he has this big midterm for his computer class that he forgot about over the vacation and it’s due tomorrow :-). Well, truthfully, he gave me his blog day… I didn’t steal it.

We got to Kansas City on Sunday (the 7th) morning and Alex and Jaclyn met us at the airport and we hit up this really cool Chinese restaurant called Bo Lings and they actually had Bubble Iced Tea- which, if you’ve never had, it’s a really neat experience. I’m not one for tea but I did enjoy the tapioca balls :-).

It was nice being able to talk to Alex and Jac about everything in person instead of over a phone. We stayed with them until they kicked us out to make room for Alex’s family, hehe.

During the conference we stayed in an apartment across the street from Alex and Jac and although it was kinda odd sleeping in a bed of a couple you’ve never met before it was definitely a gift from God not having to pay to stay somewhere. And it was SUPER nice of them to let us stay there without knowing us.. at all. The other one-of-many blessings on the trip was that the apartment was right across the street from IHOP so transporting ourselves wasn’t an issue. The only downside of staying there was they have a cat and Tim and I are both allergic. So we just had to make sure we were constantly stocking our bodies up with Claritin :-).

But the conference (well, it was actually called a “Leadership Summit”) was amazing!! It’s really less of a conference and more of an atmosphere to get refreshed and to connect with other leaders. We met people from Africa, Canada, Colorado, Florida, and Louisiana.

The time of the prophetic ministry was probably the coolest though. I’ve never had someone prophetically speak over me before. I was SO nervous… I could feel my pulse in my face! I kept having vivid images of a person sitting next to me and then after a minute of silence be like, “I’m sorry, God isn’t telling me anything” or “Oh, my! Do you have enormous pride!”

They sit you in groups of 20 and place a tape-recorder next to you and when someone from the prophetic team has a word for you, they sit next to you and speak it into the recorder (which I think is a fantastic idea… especially for people like me who don’t have the perfect memory). And every single one of them hit the nail on head! It was so cool! I want to go back just for that. They, thankfully, completely shattered all my misconceptions :-).

So I’m really, really, really excited about what’s coming up… even if everything seems so mundane now.
